DEPARTMENT OF INORGANIC CHEMISTRY
The Department of Inorganic Chemistry teaches the following disciplines for the students of all specialities of the University:
- General and Inorganic
- ChemistryChemistry
- Chemistry with the basics of Biogeochemistry
Since 2005, a pedagogical experiment on the introduction of a credit-module system in the education has been conducted at the Department for the first year studentsof the chemical-technological specialties of the Inorganic and Silicate faculties. For its conduct were developed work programs of disciplines, rating cards, a package of educational methodological literature and criteria for assessing student knowledge.
Using the previous experience (more than 15 years of use of the rating system for student assessment) and the experience of the pedagogical experiment, since 2006, education of full-time chemical students of all faculties, as well as the students of mechanical and economic coursesis carried out using the credit-module system of training.
Particularly relevant is the issue of introducing modern computer technologies and elements of distance learning into the educational process. Lectures on the subjects “General and Inorganic Chemistry”, “Chemistry” and “Chemistry with the basics of Biogeochemistry” are read in a specially equipped audience № 413 with the use of an interactive board. A set of tests has been developed, based on which computer testing is implemented. The “Electronic Case of the Department” has been created, which includes electronic versions of lecture notes, methodical instructions for the preparation and conduct of laboratory and practical works, various differentiated tasks (practical and theoretical) for independent work of students.
The staff of the Department organize and conduct the first round of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad among the technological and mechanical students in Inorganic Chemistry, as well as in the jury, participating in the Regional Olympiad in Chemistry for students of the Dnipropetrovsk Region and the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Chemistry.
The Department also pays great attantion to campaigning and preparation of entrants. Under the leadership of the Head Prof. O.V. Shtemenko,at the University there is the School of Chemist, which is visited by all willing schoolchildren. Leading scientists and lecturers of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry are involved in conducting classes at the School of Chemist. For the students of the School not only interesting lectures are read, but also practical and laboratory lessons are conducted, and the most talented students perform research work, prepare scientific abstracts, participate in conducting scientific conferences. The acquired knowledge and skills the graduates from the School of Chemist use, distribute and deepen whilebeing university students.
