The main direction of scientific activity of the Department of Chemical Technology of Binding Materials was formed on the basis of research works, which were carried out under the direction of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Saliei A. A., as well as candidates of technical sciences Kulik V. O. and Shevchenko O. F. The works were devoted to the development of new compositions and technologies for the production of astringent materials and products based on their various functional purposes with the solution of environmental and energy problems.

The Department develops research that solves the problems of obtaining air-binding materials with improved properties: gas gypsum, building plaster, new types of plaster materials and lime.

The Department regularly performs state budget research work, in accordance with the SRW plan of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, where the staff members of the Department hold positions of executives, responsible executives, researchers and engineers.

The Department regularly protects the candidate’s theses, in particular, the latest candidate’s dissertation on the topic “Barium-containing sulfonated clinkers and cements” was defended in October 2011 (Sopina N.P.). In 2008, doctoral dissertation “Physical and chemical bases of production of special cements using waste from the mining and metallurgical complex” was defended by A. A. Saliei.

In addition to qualified scientific staff, scientific studies are carried out by students, which allows them to more closely study the basic physical and chemical processes that occur during the production of cement, plaster, lime and other binders.
