The performance “Where is your brother, Abel?” in the Dnipro Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko

Our students have already visited this performance. We watched a wonderful solo performance with great interest and pleasure. The picture impressed with its naturalness. Everyone liked that the actor was able to convey the spirit of that era, the atmosphere filled with its unforgettable color, its all-pervading light. The illusion of touching those events in reality was created.

A little about the play:

Back in 1965, two men who had been in a German concentration camp in Ukraine 23 years earlier met by chance in a cafe in a resort town. One of them did not immediately recognize the other, or rather pretended not to. Gradually, a not-so-pleasant dialogue about their past begins between them… And why is Abel here? – you ask. Let’s recall the biblical story about two brothers. Cain brought as a gift to God from the fruits of the earth, while Abel brought as a sacrifice the firstlings of the animals of his herd. Cain, angry that God preferred Abel’s sacrifice, killed his brother. When God asked him, “Where is your brother Abel?” He answered: “Am I my brother’s keeper”? God punishes Cain with a curse: “You will be an exile and a prostitute on earth”, but at the same time marks him with the “Seal of Cain” so that no one kills him.

Stage editing, production, scenography, selection of music and performance – Honored Artist of Ukraine Vilen Golovko.

Who is Cain to whom, and who is Abel in this monologue? The viewer will get the answer to this and other questions in the finale…
