Ihor L Kovalenko

Head of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Two higher educations: 1996, USUCT, engineer – technologist, 1998 USUCT,  economist.

Awards:   Diplomas of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council (2008) and Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration (2010); Acknowledgments of the MESU (2016).

In 2017, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Physical and Chemical Fundamentals and Technology of Nitrogen Energy Condensed Systems”

Scientific interests:  Technology of modern nitrate energy-condensed systems and TNT-free industrial explosives with the maximum safety of manufacturing, handling as well as application in quarries, underground mines and at the construction of underground.

Ihor Kovalenko is one of the developers of the Targeted State and Regional Programs (1999-2005, 2012-2016) “Transition of mining enterprises controlled by the Kryvyi Rih Territorial Department of Derzhgirpromnahlyad of Ukraine to TNT environmentally friendly explosives.”

In the period from 2004 to 2010, he was Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of SHEI USUCT. From 2006 to 2010, Kovalenko was Advisor to the Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region. Since 2011, he is an Honorary Adviser to the Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region.

He is a developer of the first version of the Statute of the Council of Young Scientists of SHEI USUCT. In 2006-2010, he took an active part in the development and implementation of the first competitions of  “The Best Young Scientist of Dnipropetrovsk Region” and “The Best Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region” of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.

In 2008-2010, he took an active part in the work of the “School of Young Scientists” of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.

In 2019-2020, he was nominated for the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for participation in the team of applicants for “Development of innovative environmentally friendly mining technologies and their integrated implementation in iron ore mines of Ukraine” (code P9) and “Eco-oriented technologies for the extraction of iron ore in the mines of Ukraine” (work code P1).

Publications: 110 scientific works, one monograph in co-authorship, 21 patents of Ukraine.

In 1973, he graduated from “DCTI in the specialty “Technology of Inorganic Substances and Chemical Fertilizers” and received a qualification – an engineer-chemist-technologist.

In 2011, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Physical and chemical bases and technology of nanosized powders of stabilized zirconium dioxide” in the direction 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances. / Member of the Specialized Academic Council D 08.078.02 on the protection of doctoral (PhD) theses.

In 1971, he graduated from “DCTI” on a specialty “Technology of electrochemical manufactures” and received a qualification – an engineer-chemist-technologist.

In 1991, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Electrochemistry of ordered organic supramolecular structures: Langmuir monolayers, Langmuir-Bloge polylayers, and processes in them” in the direction 02.00.05 – Electrochemistry.

In 2000, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Synthesis, structure, and properties of binuclear complex compounds of rhenium (III) with amino acids” in the direction 02.00.01 – Inorganic Chemistry.

Research and implementation in the nature-protective purposes of the processes of the utilization of multi-tonnage wastes of the chemical, mining, and metallurgical industry.

In 1994, she graduated from DCTI in “Chemical technology of inorganic substances” and received a qualification – engineer-chemist-technologist.

In 1999, she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Preparation of iron oxide by chemical enrichment of iron-containing concentrates” in the direction 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances. Since 2010, the Scientific Secretary of the Specialized Academic Council D 08.078.02 for the protection of doctor’s (candidate’s) dissertations in the specialties:

In 1996, he graduated from DCTI in the specialty “Technology of Inorganic Substances” and received a qualification as an engineer-chemist-technologist.

 In 2002, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Preparation of zirconium with a sol-gel method using carbamide” in the direction 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances.

Since 2009, he has been working as the Head of the Educational and Research Center of the University.

Since 2011, he has been the coordinator of a series of international projects “Water Harmony”, which currently unites 50 universities from 33 countries (https://www.waterharmony.net).

He participated in the workshop NATO CYBERWATER 2018 – Physical and Cyber Safety in Critical Water Infrastructure (2018).

Roman V Smotraev is an Associate Member of the International Water Association (IWA) since 2018.

In 2011, she graduated from USUCT in the specialty “Equipment of chemical manufactures and enterprises of building materials” and received a qualification as an engineer-mechanic.

In 2014, she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Cyanide production of gold-containing solutions from mineral raw materials using plasma chemically treated water” in the direction 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances.

She was the Head of youth research work “Development of the latest multifunctional materials for purification and disinfection of drinking and wastewater” for № Dr. 0119U002000 (2019-2021). She was the responsible executor of youth research work “Development of comprehensive measures for purification and disinfection of drinking water” for № Dr. 0116U006895 (2017-2018). Leading researcher of the research “Obtaining nano dispersed metal, metal oxide materials, and nanocomposites based on their environmental protection” for № Ph.D. 0119U002242 (2019-2021). In 2014-2015, she held the position of Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the University.

She was the executor of two international projects: project CPEA-2011/10002 “Water Harmony – Integration of Education, Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (with financial support from the Norwegian Center for International Cooperation in Education (SIU) under an agreement with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and project № 561755 -EPP-1-2015-1-NO-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP Harmonization of water education related to water resources (Water Harmony Erasmus +) (funding was provided in accordance with the Framework Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Commission of the European Communities under the Erasmus + program, KA2 – Higher education capacity development projects).

In 2010, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Production of zirconium-containing compounds from zircon Malyshevskyi deposit” in the direction 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances.

Since 2011, he has been Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Inorganic Substances.

In 2017, she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Preparation of sorbents on the basis of zirconium (IV) and aluminum (III) oxyhydroxides by sol-gel method” in specialty 05.17.01 – Technology of inorganic substances.

From 2016 to 2019, she held the position of a junior researcher at the Inorganic Substances and Electrochemistry Department as well as she was a participant of the Research Work of Integrated Measures for the Purification and Disinfection of Drinking Water. “

Since 2016, she was a participant in the international projects “Water Harmony – Integration of Education, Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (Water Harmony II), project number CPEA-2015/10036 (https://www.waterh.net/en/) and Harmonization of Diploma Water Education (Water Harmony) (http://waterh.eu).

In 1986, he graduated from DCTI in the specialty “Machines and Apparatus of Chemical Production” and received a qualification as an engineer mechanic.

In 1998, he graduated from DCTI postgraduate study program in “Technology of Inorganic Substances”.

He worked as a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory for the Technology of Fine Inorganic Synthesis.

Since 1993, he has been teaching at the Department.
