Advanced training of chemistry teachers at the SEI USUCT
Teaching chemistry in schools requires constant improvement of methods and updating of knowledge. That is why the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology (USUCT) regularly organizes teacher training courses, providing teachers with the opportunity to get acquainted with new scientific approaches, modern technologies and practical experiments.
On February 12, 2025, the university held another training for chemistry teachers from city schools, which combined theoretical lectures with practical research and master classes.
At the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, the acting head of the department, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Olexandr Golichenko, Associate Professor Dina Kytova, and senior laboratory assistant Svitlana Zhornyak conducted a series of laboratory works for teachers that can be used in school classrooms, since they do not require expensive reagents. In particular, the teachers:
- Analyzed honey for key quality indicators;
- Investigated the effect of pH on the color of anthocyanin dyes obtained from red cabbage;
- Revealed hidden inscriptions using an alcoholic solution of curcumin.
Finally, the participants witnessed vivid experiments “Colorful Metamorphoses” and “Sparks”, which added to the entertainment.
At the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Food Additives and Cosmetics, teachers got acquainted with scientific developments in the field of cosmetology. Associate Professor Maria Myronyak spoke about modern food additives, their effect on the human body and their use in cosmetics.
The culmination of the meeting was a master class on making decorative soap, during which the participants not only learned about all the stages of its creation, but also made gift samples themselves.
Such educational initiatives help teachers integrate new teaching methods, interest students, and make chemistry lessons more exciting. NNI USUCT will continue to actively cooperate with teachers, opening up modern opportunities in the field of science and education for them.
