SEI USUCT celebrated the Day of Women in Science together with lyceum students

February 11 is celebrated worldwide as International Day of Women and Girls in Science, an event that highlights the significant contribution of women to the development of science and inspires future generations of female researchers. On February 11, 2025, a thematic event was held at the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology (USUCT) with the participation of students of the Dnipro Lyceum No. 67 “Dzherelo” at the SEI “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology”. Director of the Institute of Scientific Research of the Udmurt State Technical University, Professor Olga Sverdlikovska, who emphasized the importance of the role of women in science and their influence on modern scientific achievements. It is difficult to imagine the scientific world without women researchers, whose contribution to the development of science is immeasurable, and their achievements are impressive. Many talented scientists work within the walls of the SEI of the USUCT, whose research shapes the future of Ukrainian science.

The following scientists of the university shared their experience and achievements with the students:

  • Olena Tertyshna, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Fuel, Polymer and Printing Materials Technologies;
  • Margarita Skyba, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Inorganic Substances Technology and Ecology;
  • Natalya Fedorova, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Law;
  • Oksana Ivchenko, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Health;
  • Svitlana Varenichenko, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Life Safety;
  • Olesya Shmychkova, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Physical Chemistry.

Students learned about scientific achievements, research areas and opportunities for self-realization in science, and also received answers to questions about their future profession.

As part of the event, high school students were given excursions to the petroleum products testing laboratory and the Center for Innovative Printing Production Technologies.

In the petroleum products laboratory, participants not only observed experiments, but also tried themselves as researchers. Together with junior researchers Natalia Kuzminskaya and Alina Musina, the students determined the density of gasoline, investigated the kinematic viscosity of oil, and checked the limiting filtration temperature. Working with modern equipment allowed the students to better understand the properties of petroleum products and immerse themselves in the world of applied science.

In the printing production laboratory, the lyceum students studied the technology of screen printing in practice and personally made T-shirts with the USUST logo. They were introduced to the features of the process by Vitaly Tomilo, associate professor of the Department of Fuel, Polymer and Printing Materials Technologies.

The event combined the honoring of women in science and practical acquaintance with the scientific activities of the university. We hope that this meeting will become another step for young people towards a conscious choice of their future profession!
