The project “GREEN-ED. Green Education of the Dnipro” was launched at the SEI USUCT USUST
The Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology has launched the educational project “GREEN-ED. Green Education of the Dnipro”, aimed at forming environmental awareness, implementing the principles of sustainable development, and involving students in modern science and research activities.
On February 14, 2026, the first participants in the project were students from Dnipro Lyceums No. 67 “Source” and No. 123 “TANDEM” of the Dnipro City Council. For schoolchildren, this day was a real immersion in the world of science – with experiments, laboratory research, and practical understanding of a responsible attitude towards the environment.
As part of the visit, the students visited the Department of Inorganic Substances Technology and Ecology of the SEI USUCT – a graduate department that trains specialists in the educational programs E2 “Ecology” (Ecology and Environmental Protection) and G1 “Chemical Technologies and Engineering” (Drinking Water and Industrial Water Treatment Technologies).
Professor of the department Margarita Skyba and head of the department, Professor Ihor Kovalenko conducted an excursion and a practical lesson for the participants “Comprehensive assessment of environmental safety of water: analysis of physicochemical and biological indicators”. During the work, the students:
- got acquainted with modern methods of water quality analysis;
- investigated the physicochemical indicators of the aquatic environment;
- analyzed biological indicators of its condition;
- learned how a comprehensive assessment of environmental safety is formed.
Special attention was paid to the demonstration of innovative scientific developments. As part of the laboratory work, Professor Margarita Skyba presented to schoolchildren modern methods for detecting and removing pollutants, which are being developed within the framework of the scientific project No. 2025.07/0078 “Creation and modification of low-temperature eutectic solvents of a new generation as liquid-phase functional materials”, which is implemented within the framework of the program “Advanced Science in Ukraine 2026–2028” with the financial support of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.
The project “GREEN-ED. Green Education of the Dnipro” is designed not only to popularize science among schoolchildren, but also to show the practical importance of environmental research and the role of the university in shaping the sustainable future of the city and the country.
