Laboratory experience for schoolchildren within the STEM program
On November 20, 2025, the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology (USUNT) hosted another event within the framework of the STEM-education: it is better to see once than hear a hundred times program.
Students of Dnipro Lyceum No. 36 visited the institute. This time they worked in the laboratories of the Department of Technologies of Natural and Synthetic Polymers, Fats and Food Products, where they tried themselves as researchers. The topic of the lesson was “Determination of Food Quality Indicators”.
The practical part was prepared by the department staff:
- Head of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Oleg Chervakov,
- Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Lesya Holub,
- Training Master Vadym Bugrym,
- Leading Engineer Ihor Prokopenko.
During the work, the students learned to determine the quality indicators of vegetable oil and carbonated drinks, and examined the fat and water content in dairy products. For many, this was their first acquaintance with laboratory methods, so the lesson aroused sincere interest and many questions.
In addition to practice, students learned more about the specialty G13 “Food Technology”, the educational program, its elective blocks and the opportunities it opens up for future applicants.
The STEM education program at USUST continues to work to ensure that students can see university laboratories “live”, touch modern science and make a conscious choice of their future profession.
