IP Marathon

On November 21-23, 2018, the 3rd International Innovation Forum INNOVATION MARKET was held in Kyiv under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization and at the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.

The organizers of the forum were the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the auspices of UNESCO, the National Intellectual Property Office, the Institute of Intellectual Property of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc.

Within the framework of the forum, there was a contest “Marathon of Intellectual Property (IP Marathon)” organized by the National Office of Intellectual Property.

The main idea of ​​the competition is to stimulate Ukrainian student youth to participate in the innovation process, test the theoretical knowledge and skills while working with intellectual property objects and form a competitive product on the market. The theme of Marathon 2018 “Start business from your invention” meant the following tasks:

– the formation of a model for the implementation of patent analytics and commercialization;

– formation of business model of innovation process;

– preparing a presentation and pitch to perform on stage.

Inventions, for which teams of participants developed commercialization projects, belonged to the finalists of the scientific and technical exhibition-contest “The Future of Ukraine”, hosted by the Small Academy of Sciences (SAS). In particular, they were: an electronic medical bracelet, a smart table, an autonomous work assistant with voice control, a work arm as a device for future automation, an interactive air quality monitoring system based on the NodeMCU microcontroller, a wind power unit for extraction of water from the air, glasses of added reality, smart -supply to a pot for the care of indoor plants, etc.

The terms of the contest included the verification of the patent purity of inventions, utility models, industrial designs, know-how and other results of intellectual, creative activity and preparation of presentation materials with proposals for the commercialization of these inventions.

The purpose of this event was to identify the best team that, due to its competences and skills, would be able to develop a commercialization project proposed by the organizing committee and present it.

University teams from Kiev, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Nikolaev, Sumy, Ternopil, Melitopol attended the competition.

In the course of the marathon, the experts identified the best teams that developed commercialization projects for inventions proposed by the organizing committee and presented them.

The winner of the competition became the NAU team of the National Aviation University (Kyiv) that presented the invention “Glasses of the augmented reality” (the author of the invention – Volodymyr Kurnosov).

The second place was won by the team “Deadline” of Lesia Ukrainka Eastern European National University (Lutsk) with the invention “Electronic voice informant of obstacles” (the author of the invention – Ihor Shybka).

The third place was taken by the team “HimTech” of Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology (Dnipro) with the invention “Wind power plant for extracting water from the air” (the author of the invention – Valentyn Gavrylchuk).

In addition to the victory, members of the team consisting of Julia Zhilko, Karina Babich (Department of Industrial Economics and Organization of Production), Dmytro Saianov, Oleksii Garmash (Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics) became participants in the scientific-practical seminar “Intellectual Property and Innovation Activity” and received Certificates, certified by leading intelectual property organizations in Ukraine.
