Discussion of educational programs at the department of AH and HTCD and KZ

On June 21, 2022, at the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Food Additives and Cosmetics, the defense of the diploma projects of ten bachelors in the specialty “161 Chemical Technologies and Engineering” took place. Tetiana Lyavdanska, a graduate of the department, director of Beauty TON LLC, was invited as the head of the examination commission. After graduation, in the format of a “round table”, the teachers of the department, with the participation of Tetyana Lyavdanska, held a discussion of the educational-professional and educational-scientific programs “Chemical technologies and engineering” of the first (bachelor’s), second (master’s) and third (doctor of philosophy) levels of higher education education.

Head of the department prof. Mykola Nikolenko reported that the educational program “Chemical technologies and engineering” was first developed in 2016, then it was improved and reapproved. OPP and ONP provide information on the program competencies and results that students must achieve, describe the list of academic disciplines and the logical sequence of their study. The main goals of these programs are the training of highly qualified and competitive specialists in chemical technologies and engineering, which includes the harmonious development of their personalities, preparation for solving complex tasks of the specialty based on research and innovation.

Director of “Beauty TON” LLC Tetyana Lyavdanska noted that, in her opinion, the disciplines listed in the OP, and in particular in the selective block “Chemical technologies of food additives and cosmetic products”, reflect the components and qualifications of chemists that are relevant for the industry – technologists. Along with this, in her opinion, during the training of specialists, attention should be paid to the technologies of manufacturing cosmetic products with biologically active components that have medical or medicinal benefits, that is cosmeceuticals. The drugs of this group include cosmetic products that, due to the content of active components, have certain advantages compared to ordinary cosmetics. Tetyana Lyavdanska noted that the manufacturers of cosmetic products are definitely interested in training highly qualified specialists in the specialty “161 Chemical technologies and engineering (selective block: Chemical technologies of food additives and cosmetics)” and promised to prepare an official feedback on the educational program “Chemical technologies and engineering”.

Teachers of the department, associate professors Olena Vashkevich, Tetyana Avdienko, Maria Myronyak, Olena Volnyanska, Oksana Labyak and Vadim Kovalenko took an active part in the discussion of this idea and agreed with the need to teach cosmeceuticals as a new discipline that has not yet been taught in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The study of this course will allow to improve the master’s knowledge of the technology of cosmetic products and will be a necessary component of the qualification of future technologists.
