Dangerous content in the Ukrainian language in the modern information space
The war in Ukraine continues not only on the front, but also in the information space, which is why we now have dangerous content in the Ukrainian language, created by the Russians to achieve their goals. Candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the department of philology and translation of the Ukrainian State University of Chemistry and Technology Lyudmyla Gaponova told about this in an interview on the “Okrytyly” TV channel on July 5, 2024.
In the modern information space, information in the Ukrainian language began to appear more and more often, which is at least not true. Distinguishing reliable information from content hostile to Ukrainians will help not only attentiveness and critical thinking of Ukrainian citizens, but also knowledge of the Ukrainian language.
Ukrainian orthography in particular underwent changes unexpected by the Russians during the full-scale invasion, which are not recorded in Ukrainian dictionaries and our current spelling. “The changed spelling of certain words and phrases has become the norm for native speakers, but Russians do not take these changes into account when creating disinformation texts in Ukrainian,” Lyudmila Gaponova notes. “Taking into account a number of specific language features of these messages, being attentive and experienced consumers, learning and improving our native Ukrainian language, we will be able to protect ourselves from hostile content.”
