USUST student wins silver at boxing tournament dedicated to Vitaly Dorofeev
On November 3, 2025, an open boxing tournament was held in Dnipro, dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the Honored Coach of Ukraine Vitaliy Dorofeyev – a legendary mentor whose name is well known in the world of Ukrainian sports.
The competition was held at the Dniprobox club and brought together both young athletes and experienced boxers from various clubs in the region. The atmosphere in the ring was distinguished by real sportsmanship and mutual respect – just as Vitaliy Mykolayovych taught.
Among the prize-winners of the tournament was a student of the SEI USUCT USUST, Andriy Plakhtyr (group 1-FK-76). He confidently conducted his fights, demonstrating technique, endurance and the will to win, and took second place in his weight category.
The tournament became not only a sporting event, but also a tribute to the coach who raised a whole galaxy of champions.
Vitaly Dorofeev was born in 1937, in 2003 he received the title of Honored Coach of Ukraine. In 1977–1982 he worked at the Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, trained dozens of international-class masters of sports, including EBU European champion and WBA intercontinental champion Vitaly Tsypko, bronze medalist of the European Championship and participant of the Olympic Games in Beijing Olexandr Stretsky, world champion among juniors Dzhamal Medzhidov. His students today train a new generation of Ukrainian boxers.
The coach’s 88th birthday was an occasion to gather several generations of athletes in one ring, those who continue his work and strive for new victories.
We sincerely congratulate Andriy Plakhtyr on the “silver” of the tournament and thank Vitaliy Mykolayovych Dorofeev for his invaluable contribution to the development of Ukrainian boxing!
