Unity of Traditions, Art, and Memory at the Vyshyvanka Day Celebration in the SEI USUCT
On May 21, 2026, on the Fountain Square near the main building of SEI «Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology» USUCT at USUST, a festive event dedicated to Vyshyvanka Day took place — one of the warmest Ukrainian holidays that unites students, lecturers, and staff in love for national traditions, culture, and historical memory.
The rector of USUST, Professor Kostiantyn Sukhyi, addressed the audience with a welcome speech. He emphasized that the vyshyvanka is the code of the nation, our DNA that speaks without words and preserves the strength of the Ukrainian spirit. The director of SEI USUCT, Professor Olga Sverdlikovska, also greeted the participants and highlighted the importance of such events for young students, as they foster respect for traditions, build unity, and preserve the memory of Heroes.
As part of the program, student Anastasiia Fitkovska recited a poem dedicated to the Ukrainian vyshyvanka and native land, which became an emotional poetic highlight of the event.
Next, the audience was shown the video “Vyshyvanka Unites Hearts”, where student and university photos emphasized the continuity of traditions and the power of shared identity.
The dance part of the program featured the composition of the “Euphoria” collective “Flower-Soul”, which combined folk motifs and modern choreographic language. Viewers also saw a contemporary dance performance by Diana Shmaka “Jellyous Diana”, showcasing the energy and creativity of student youth.
The musical part was complemented by the song “Kalyna” performed by Mariia Verbytska, which served as a symbolic reminder of the power of Ukrainian song as an important component of national culture.
The culmination of the event was the participation of attendees in the All-Ukrainian action “Embroidered Ribbon of Memory”, dedicated to honoring Ukraine’s fallen defenders. Participants attached ribbons to the memorial for the Defenders of our university who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom and Independence, demonstrating unity and remembrance of their feat.
Concluding the event, the organizers noted that today the vyshyvanka is not only an element of traditional clothing, but also a symbol of unity, resilience, and indomitability of the Ukrainian people.
At the end, everyone took traditional commemorative photos in colorful attire on the Fountain Square.
The celebration at SEI USUCT became another confirmation that Ukrainian culture lives in words, music, dance, and shared traditions of the university community.
