The team of the Department of Energy of the SEI USUCT is among the finalists of the interuniversity hackathon “MHP TECH Hackathon for team”
From May 15 to 18, 2025, the interuniversity hackathon “MHP TECH Hackathon for team”, organized by the initiative of PrJSC “MHP”, took place. The large-scale technical event brought together almost 300 participants from different parts of Ukraine, who competed for the right to present their engineering solutions in the energy sector at the away final in the city of Vinnytsia.
Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology was worthily represented by the HeatEnergy team, which included students of the Department of Energy of the Educational and Scientific Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology”. The team was formed by:
- Taras OVECHKIN (gr. 4-ETT-21, captain),
- Olexandr OLESYUK (gr. 4-ETT-21),
- Herman GERASYMENKO (gr. 4-ET-21),
- Denys VERPOSKIY (gr. 4-ET-21),
- Anna GERGEL (gr. 4-ETT-21).
The first (home) stage was held in an online format, where participants worked on technical cases focused on current issues in the electrical and thermal engineering industries. As a result of a strict selection, only the six strongest teams were invited to the final, including our HeatEnergy.
In Vinnytsia, the following competed for the title of the best:
- “Phase” – VSP “Berezhany Professional College of NUBiP of Ukraine”,
- “Engineering Worms” – NU “Poltava Polytechnic named after Yuriy Kondratyuk”,
- “New Gen team 2.0” – Kryvyi Rih National University,
- “ERIN NUHT” – Kyiv University of Food Technologies,
- “Ener Genius” – Lviv Polytechnic National University,
- and our team – “НeatEnergy”.
HeatEnergy presented a practically implemented case on the topic “Utilization of thermal energy from cogeneration plants using an absorption refrigerator”. The key element of the solution was the idea of using an absorption unit based on lithium bromide (LiBr) to cool water to a temperature of 6–10°C, which allows us to abandon energy-intensive electric compressors in cooling systems.
The team demonstrated itself brilliantly both technically and creatively, gaining recognition from the jury and participants. For participating in the final, the students received valuable gifts from the organizers and sincere words of gratitude from the management of PrJSC “MHP”. Special gratitude was also expressed to the university management for supporting young engineers and encouraging their participation in all-Ukrainian innovation competitions.
