The National Unity Radio Dictation Brought Participants Together in the “Safe Space” of the USUCT SEI

On October 27, 2026, Ukrainian Writing and Language Day, a joint writing of the 2026 National Unity Radio Dictation took place in the shelter of the SEI “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of USUST. More than 150 participants joined the nationwide language initiative. Students, lecturers, representatives of the Dnipro Youth Council, veterans, people with disabilities, public activists, and participants of the University of the Third Age gathered in the university’s “Safe Space.” For some of those present, this was their first experience taking part in the Radio Dictation.

This year’s text was entitled “The Letter That Never Ends”. Its author was Artur Dron, a writer and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war. During the live broadcast on Suspilne, the text was read by Artur Proidakov, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, and Dasha Astafieva, a public figure and volunteer. The text was dedicated to personal feelings, loved ones, and the power of love to overcome distance and hardships.

At the beginning of the event, the host addressed the audience with the following words: “May this Radio Dictation serve as another reminder that, regardless of where we are, we are united by our shared history, shared values, and our incredible Ukrainian language.”

The participants were also welcomed by Olha Ryzhova, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Advertising and Information Activities, and Communications at USUST. She emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support: “Only together are we strong!” She concluded her address with the words “Glory to Ukraine!”, to which the participants responded unanimously: “Glory to the Heroes!”

This year’s event was particularly meaningful because it provided an opportunity for people with diverse needs to take part. The shelter of the USUCT SEI is equipped in accordance with accessibility and barrier-free environment principles. Preparation of the space took approximately six months, with facilities for people with mobility impairments incorporated into its design.

Among the participants was Tetiana Podziuban, an ambassador of the “Movement Without Barriers” project, who uses a wheelchair. This year, she took part in the Radio Dictation for the first time. Tetiana shared her impressions with media representatives: “The National Unity Radio Dictation is very important because it brings people together, and our Ukrainian language unites us.”

Nataliia Tsipura and her daughter Hanna also joined the initiative. For Hanna, who uses a wheelchair and usually types text on her mobile phone, participating in the joint writing of the dictation provided an opportunity to take part in a nationwide language initiative in a way that was convenient for her. This example once again demonstrated how important it is to create accessible conditions in which everyone can participate in community life.

Representatives of the Dnipro Youth Council and the Department of Youth Policy, Ukrainian National and Civic Identity of the Dnipro City Council took part in organizing and holding the event. Oleksii Yukhno, Head of the Dnipro Youth Council, noted that more than 150 city residents had joined the dictation, while Serhii Ludenskyi, Acting Director of the Department, emphasized the unifying significance of such initiatives, which bring together people of different generations and backgrounds.

Following the event, the Department of Youth Policy thanked the university for its cooperation and support. It noted that only through joint efforts was it possible to hold the gathering in a safe location and bring together such a large number of people around the Ukrainian language.

The National Unity Radio Dictation at the USUCT SEI became a gathering of people united by the Ukrainian language, despite their different ages, life experiences, and abilities. On this day, every line written, the presence of others, and the sense of unity with Ukrainians in different parts of the world were important.

We thank all participants, partners, and organizers for joining the language initiative and supporting an accessible space for community gatherings.
