The Department of Computer-Integrated Technologies and Robotics Introduced Students of the “TANDEM” Lyceum to Robots, Measurements, and Computer Engineering
On October 9, 2026, representatives of the admissions committee of the SEI “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of USUST and lecturers from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering met with students of Dnipro Lyceum No. 123 “TANDEM” of the Dnipro City Council.
This time, the introduction to the university was organized in a practical format. The lyceum students took part in a quest during which they explored the properties and capabilities of robots and also tested their knowledge in a quiz covering three thematic areas — “Computer Engineering”, “Robotics”, and “The World of Measuring Instruments”.
This format made it possible to discuss future professions not merely by naming specialties, as the participants considered how modern robotic systems work, where computer technologies are applied, and what role measurements and sensors play in automated systems.
Tetiana Mykolaivna Dubovyk, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer-Integrated Technologies and Robotics, spoke about studying at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies and the opportunities available to students. Her teaching and research work is related, in particular, to computer systems, robotics, cyber-physical systems, and other modern IT fields.
The lyceum students were also introduced to the specialties for which the Department of Computer-Integrated Technologies and Robotics trains specialists:
- F7 Computer Engineering;
- G6 Information and Measurement Technologies;
- G7 Automation, Computer-Integrated Technologies, and Robotics.
The department provides training in these fields at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. In particular, future computer engineers work with computer and embedded systems, microprocessor technology, networks, and hardware-software systems; the field of information and measurement technologies combines measuring equipment, electronics, microcontrollers, and digital technologies; automation and robotics cover the control of technological processes, programming, and modern automated systems.
These fields have a long history at the department. Training specialists in automated control of technological processes, which today corresponds to specialty G7, has been carried out here since 1959, while the field of measuring equipment, now G6 Information and Measurement Technologies, has been developing since 1996. In the same year, 1996, the first group of students in the specialty “Specialized Computer Systems” was formed at USUCT, from which the modern field of computer engineering later developed.
During the meeting, the lyceum students were able to ask questions about the content of the educational program, specialties, and the opportunities offered by USUST. They also received informational materials for prospective applicants.
The practical quest helped demonstrate the interconnection between the three fields: computer systems make it possible to process information, measurement technologies make it possible to obtain data on real-world processes, and automation and robotics make it possible to use this data to control technical systems.
Such meetings give high school students an opportunity, even before applying to university, to see what lies behind the names of the specialties, ask lecturers questions, and relate their own interests to a future professional field.
