SEI USUCT PhD Student Oleksandr Sukhatskyi Awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the 36th Separate Marine Brigade

The Educational and Scientific Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of USUST is proud of its students who not only achieve significant results in science but also honorably fulfill their civic duty by defending Ukraine.

Among them is postgraduate student of the Department of Physical Chemistry Oleksandr Sukhatskyi, whose scientific supervisor is Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Viacheslav Protsenko.

While still studying at the university, Oleksandr proved himself to be a capable and determined young researcher. In 2023, he entered postgraduate studies and continued his research in the field of electrochemistry. His work focuses on studying the patterns of electrochemical deposition of functional coatings from electrolytes based on low-temperature eutectic solvents to create advanced electrocatalysts promising for use in “green” hydrogen energy.

Oleksandr Sukhatskyi was an active participant in the state-funded research project “Fundamental Aspects of Electrochemical Processes for the Creation and Functioning of Electrocatalysts for ‘Green’ Hydrogen Energy”. Despite his young age, he already has substantial scientific achievements. His academic record includes eight scientific articles indexed in the international scientometric database Scopus, including four publications in specialized international journals of the first and second quartiles.

In August 2025, the young researcher’s life path changed — he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Due to his military service, his postgraduate studies were temporarily suspended through academic leave. At the same time, his commitment to science has not faded: even while serving, Oleksandr continues to work on scientific results and publish research materials completed earlier.

On 23 May 2026, sailor Oleksandr Sukhatskyi was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the command of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi — one of the most renowned units of the Marine Corps of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, formed in 2015 on the basis of military units withdrawn from temporarily occupied Crimea. The brigade bears the honorary name of Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi and is known for its participation in the defense of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The award was presented in recognition of his conscientious performance of military duties, loyalty to the Military Oath, outstanding professional competence, personal contribution to defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and on the occasion of the Day of the Ukrainian Marine Corps.

During a well-deserved leave, Oleksandr visited his alma mater, where he is always warmly welcomed by faculty members, colleagues, and friends. For the SEI USUCT community, he has become an example of how dedication to science, professional perseverance, patriotism, and a commitment to defending one’s country can be successfully combined.

The responsibility, discipline, determination, and results-oriented approach that distinguished Oleksandr as a young researcher now also serve him well during his military service. His story demonstrates that a genuine calling to serve Ukraine can be fulfilled both in a research laboratory and in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The staff of the Educational and Scientific Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” sincerely congratulate Oleksandr Dmytrovych Sukhatskyi on receiving this distinguished award and wish him and his fellow service members good health, strength of spirit, steadfast support from the home front, new victories, and a safe return to peaceful life. We are confident that many new scientific achievements, a successful PhD dissertation defense, and further professional accomplishments for the benefit of Ukraine lie ahead.
