Professor Dmytro Zelentsov Marks 25 Years of Professional Service at USUCT

In May 2026, the Department of Information Systems of the Educational and Scientific Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (USUST) celebrated a significant milestone—the 25th anniversary of the professional service of Professor Dmytro Hehemonovych Zelentsov, Doctor of Engineering.

A quarter of a century at the University represents not only years of dedicated teaching but also an outstanding contribution to the development of a recognised scientific school, the growth of the Department of Information Systems, the education of highly qualified specialists, and the advancement of modern fields within computer science.

Professor Dmytro Zelentsov joined the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology in 2001. From 2002 to 2026, he served as Head of the Department of Information Systems, and between 2014 and 2016, he also held the position of Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering. Under his leadership, the Department became one of the University’s leading research centres in the fields of mathematical modelling, information technologies, and artificial intelligence systems.

Professor Zelentsov’s research interests include the modelling of complex systems, computational methods, interval mathematics, and modern areas of artificial intelligence, particularly fuzzy set theory and artificial neural networks. His extensive research achievements are reflected in more than 50 scientific publications, two monographs, numerous educational and methodological materials, and five certificates of copyright registration for computer software.

One of Professor Dmytro Zelentsov’s most significant achievements has been the establishment of a strong and influential scientific school. Under his supervision, numerous PhD and Doctor of Engineering dissertations have been successfully defended, while many of his former students have become members of the academic staff of the Department, continuing the scientific traditions he established.

Professor Zelentsov has also devoted considerable effort to mentoring the next generation of researchers. Thanks to his guidance, students of the Department regularly become winners and prize recipients of academic Olympiads, student research competitions, and scientific conferences, consistently demonstrating a high level of professional training and research excellence.

An important area of Professor Zelentsov’s professional activity has been the organisation and development of the Department’s scientific community. Since 2001, he has continuously led the Inter-University Scientific Seminar “Modelling and Optimisation of Complex Systems”, which has become a respected platform for discussing current scientific challenges, presenting dissertation research, and fostering professional collaboration among researchers from higher education institutions across Ukraine.

Since 2015, at the initiative of the Department of Information Systems and with the direct support of Professor Dmytro Zelentsov, the University has hosted the annual International Scientific and Practical Conference “Computer Modelling and Optimisation of Complex Systems”. Over the years, the conference has evolved into a recognised international forum for presenting cutting-edge research, promoting international scientific cooperation, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers, academics, doctoral candidates, and students.

Today, Professor Dmytro Zelentsov continues to play an active role in scientific research, supervising student and early-career researchers, while advancing promising fields of mathematical modelling, complex systems optimisation, and artificial intelligence technologies.

The staff of the Department of Information Systems sincerely congratulate Professor Dmytro Hehemonovych Zelentsov on this remarkable professional milestone and express their deepest gratitude for his many years of dedicated service, outstanding contribution to the development of the Department, the University, and Ukrainian science.

We wish him excellent health, boundless energy, continued scientific success, talented students, the successful implementation of innovative research projects, and many more professional achievements for the benefit of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
