Every year on December 7, Ukraine and the world celebrate the World Day of the Ukrainian Headscarf. This holiday, launched in 2019, has become a unique initiative designed to preserve national traditions and unite women of all ages, professions and nationalities.

A headscarf in Ukrainian culture has always been more than just an element of clothing. It is a talisman, a symbol of the female soul, love, respect for the family and the memory of ancestors. Like embroidery, a headscarf carries a deep genetic code of the nation, serves as a reflection of authenticity and spirituality. At the same time, it is a symbol of female honor and dignity.

The idea of ​​​​the celebration originated in Ukraine, but in the first years, the World Day of the Ukrainian Headscarf gained international publicity. The first flash mob on social networks gathered more than a million participants from 20 countries of the world. Participants took pictures in traditional headscarves, demonstrating respect for Ukrainian culture. The holiday gained particular momentum in 2020, when a record was set for the number of photos with headscarves published on social networks.

For several years in a row, the NNI of the USCTU has been actively involved in celebrating this holiday. Teachers, students and staff participate in flash mobs and creative events. The university holds thematic lectures, master classes on tying headscarves and photo shoots in traditional costumes. And this year, on the eve of the World Day of the Ukrainian Headscarf on December 7, 2024, students and staff of the university have already traditionally dressed in festive attire.

The Ukrainian Handkerchief Festival is not only a tribute to the past, but also a look into the future. The preservation and popularization of national traditions become the basis for the formation of the identity of modern Ukrainian youth.
