Meeting with Students of Dnipro Gymnasium No. 88 of the Dnipro City Council
As part of the implementation of the project “GREEN-ED. Green Education of Dnipro”, an educational meeting with students of Dnipro Gymnasium No. 88 of the Dnipro City Council was held at the Educational and Scientific Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of USUST.
On March 20, 2026, ninth-grade students visited the учеб laboratories of the Department of Pharmacy, Chemistry, and Technologies, where they were able to see how school knowledge of chemistry is applied in practice. For the students, it was an opportunity to get closer acquainted with the profession of a pharmacist and understand how medicines are created.
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Ihor Yakymenko, the students took part in a laboratory experiment and tried themselves in chemical synthesis for the first time. In particular, they obtained para-benzoquinone as part of a study related to antibacterial substances.
During the meeting, the students became acquainted with modern laboratory equipment used in the pharmaceutical industry. Particular interest was aroused by the process of manufacturing ascorbic acid tablets, which the participants pressed themselves using laboratory equipment.
Such activities help students better understand the practical significance of chemistry and see how scientific knowledge is transformed into real products. For many, this becomes an important step in choosing a future profession.
