Foam glass for construction: a school project with the participation of a teacher from the SEI USUCT

Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Technologies of Ceramics, Glass and Biomedical Materials of the Scientific Research Institute of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology Yaroslava Koltsova takes an active part in supporting student scientific initiatives, involving schoolchildren in modern chemical and technological research.

Under her scientific advice, an eleventh-grader of the Dnipro Lyceum No. 144 named after Levi Yitzhak Schneerson Alisa Schneider is working on a research project dedicated to studying the properties of foam glass as an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly material for building insulation. As part of the work, a series of experimental samples of foam glass with different blast furnace slag contents were manufactured and the influence of temperature regimes on their thermal and operational characteristics was investigated.

The foam glass studied in the project is distinguished by its heat and sound insulation properties, fire resistance and moisture resistance, and also meets the principles of sustainable development due to the use of secondary raw materials. Such research has practical significance for modern construction and energy saving.

The participation of teachers of the Department of Chemical Technologies of Ceramics, Glass and Biomedical Materials in working with students contributes to the popularization of science, the formation of research skills of students and the encouragement of applicants to choose chemical and technological specialties.
