Festive events for Vyshyvanka Day at the SEI USUCT
On May 15, 2025, events were held at the SEU USUCT on the occasion of World Embroidery Day. This year’s slogan of the holiday – “Save from oblivion and preserve for posterity” – calls for supporting Ukrainian traditions, especially in times of war, when culture becomes a shield on the way to victory.
The celebration began a week ago with an online flash mob “Embroidery is the language our soul speaks”, which was joined by students of all faculties and teachers. They shared photos in embroidery, demonstrating the variety of colors and ornaments from different regions of Ukraine.
The official part of the event took place in the lobby of the main building. The rector of the USUST, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences Konstyan Sukhyi and acting abbot of the Ukrainian State Technical University, Director of the Institute of SEI USUCT, Professor Olga Sverdlikovska. They thanked the students and teachers for their activity and emphasized that today the vyshyvanka has become a symbol of the invincibility of Ukrainians.
The festive program was continued by student performances. Ukrainian songs were sung, dance numbers created a festive atmosphere, and a video clip about the regional features of vyshyvanka introduced the audience to the history and symbolism of embroidered patterns.
The holiday ended with a traditional general photo in memory of this day when the university was again united under national colors.
For Ukrainians, vyshyvanka is not just clothing. Its patterns encode family amulets, symbols of strength and beauty, a common memory of generations of ancestors. It unites, inspires and reminds us that each of us is a part of the great Ukrainian people.
Thank you to all participants for the festive atmosphere and sincere emotions!
