Exhibition of paintings by Chinese artist Zhang Biyun in the Art Space of the National Institute of Ukrainian State Technical University

On May 8, 2025, the opening of an exhibition of works by the talented Chinese artist Zhang Biyun took place in the Art Space of the National Institute of Fine Arts of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology. Her works, made in the guohua technique, are already known far beyond China and are in the collections of museums and private collections in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Italy and other countries.

This exhibition was the result of a cultural exchange between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology and Zhang Biyun. In March 2025, a university delegation visited the artist’s studio during a working trip to China. It was then that Zhang Biyun, who once defended her thesis in Ukraine, donated several of her paintings to the USUST as a symbol of cultural friendship and support for the university’s artistic initiatives.

During the opening of the exhibition, the acting director of the SEI USUCT, professor of the Department of Fuel, Polymer and Printing Materials Technologies, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Olga Sverdlikovskaya addressed the guests with a welcoming speech. She emphasized that the Institute’s Art Space is a center where science and art are combined, and this exhibition is another opportunity to get closer to the eternal beauty of nature, which Zhang Biyun so skillfully conveys.

The exhibition guides told about the artist’s creative path, her style and technique. They noted that each work of Zhang Biyun is not just an image of a flower or a bird, but a real story in which every detail has its own symbolic meaning.

The event was attended by representatives of the university who participated in the trip to China: Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Advertising and Information Activities and Communications, Professor Olga Ryzhova, Associate Professor of the Department of Fuel, Polymer and Printing Materials Technologies Oleg Kalinichenko and Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Olexandr Velichenko. They shared their impressions of meeting the artist and talked about her creative path.

The exhibition of paintings by Zhang Biyun will last for several weeks, so everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the exquisite works of Chinese landscape painting and touch the culture of the East.

We thank the trade union organization of the National Institute of Fine Arts of the Ukrainian State Technical University for supporting this cultural event and everyone who participated in its organization.
