Dissertation Defense of USUCT SEI Postgraduate Student Vitalii Kuzminskyi on Novel Alkyd Film-Forming Agents
On September 10, 2026, the defense of the dissertation of Vitalii Yuriiovych KUZMINSKYI for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 161 Chemical Technologies and Engineering took place at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies. The dissertation was entitled “Alkyd Film-Forming Agents Modified with Nitrogen-Containing Derivatives of Aliphatic Acids”.
The scientific supervisor was Konstantyn Yelyseiovych Varlan, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Technologies of Natural and Synthetic Polymers, Fats and Food Products of the USUCT SEI.
The dissertation is devoted to establishing the patterns of formation of the structure, rheological, physicomechanical, and anticorrosive properties of alkyd and alkyd-urethane coating materials modified with oleochemical products and nitrogen-containing derivatives of aliphatic acids, as well as to the development of environmentally safe anticorrosive coatings based on renewable raw materials.
Based on the results of the research, a formulation of the light-gray AU-199 “3 in 1” alkyd-urethane enamel was developed for the anticorrosive protection of metal surfaces.
Seven scientific papers on the topic of the dissertation were published in specialized scientific journals of Ukraine, including two articles in journals indexed in the Scopus scientometric database and ranked in Q4 and Q3 quartiles according to the SCImago Journal and Country Rank classification, as well as four conference proceedings papers presented at international conferences.
The obtained results are related to the scientific activities of the Department of Technologies of Natural and Synthetic Polymers, Fats and Food Products of the USUCT SEI. In particular, a joint study by Kostiantyn Varlan, Vitalii Kuzminskyi, and their colleagues in 2024 examined promising directions for the use of vegetable oil processing products in the creation of polymer materials and coatings, including those with anticorrosive and other functional properties.
As a result of the discussion and open voting, the council members unanimously supported the decision to award Vitalii Yuriiovych the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
We sincerely congratulate Vitalii Yuriiovych and his scientific supervisor, Kostiantyn Yelyseiovych, on the successful defense! We express our gratitude to the members of the one-time specialized academic council and all colleagues whose contribution made this event possible.
We wish them new scientific achievements, successful publications, and innovative research in the field of chemical technology!
