Biomedical students of the SEI USUCT visited the Biopharma Plasma donor center

On October 4, 2025, students of the SEI USUCT USUST, specialty G22 Biomedical Engineering, together with the curator, associate professor of the Department of Chemical Technologies of Ceramics, Glass and Biomedical Materials Olena Khomenko, visited the modern donor center “Biopharma Plasma”.

During the visit, the students got acquainted with plasmapheresis technologies and the operation of high-precision medical equipment that ensures a safe process of donor plasma procurement. They saw how knowledge of biomechanics, electronics, sensors, materials science and automation is combined in real conditions.

Future biomedical engineers observed the operation of plasmapheresis devices, learned about pressure, temperature and blood flow control systems, as well as about means that ensure sterility and safety during the procedure.

Special attention during the tour was paid to bioengineering aspects: the use of biocompatible materials, filtration and cooling systems, as well as biosafety issues: sealing, disposal, disinfection and environmental monitoring.

The students also talked to specialists responsible for the maintenance of medical equipment and saw in practice how important the role of a biomedical engineer is for the accuracy, reliability and safety of medical processes.

Such a visit was not only meaningful, but also inspired the students for further professional growth, because they saw how the knowledge gained at the university directly affects the quality of medical services and the preservation of human life.
