The implementation of interdisciplinary research work dedicated to the creation of oxide-ceramic coatings for a new generation of medical implants is ongoing at the SEI USUST. In the fall of 2024, an agreement on scientific and practical cooperation was signed between our institute and the State Institution “Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Prof. M.I. Sytenko NAMS of Ukraine” (Kharkiv).

The executor and scientific director of the project from SEU USUST is Associate Professor of the Department of Fuel, Polymer and Printing Materials Technologies Oleg Kalinichenko. Within the framework of the cooperation, it is planned to study the biocompatibility of coatings through a series of experiments on animals with subsequent bioethical examination of the results.

On May 12-15, 2025, the scientist took part in surgical interventions on laboratory animals in Kharkov. The aim of this stage was to assess the toxicity, biocompatibility and regenerative capacity of the developed materials. All experiments were performed in accordance with the protocol and in compliance with ethical standards.

This work was an important step towards the creation of Ukrainian bioactive implants and the development of new generation medical technologies.
