A postgraduate student of the Department of Information Systems of the USUCT SEI defended a dissertation in the specialty 122 Computer Science
On August 17, 2026, a public defense of the dissertation of Yurii Oleksiiovych Pertsev, a postgraduate student of the Department of Information Systems of the Educational and Research Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” (USUCT SEI), took place at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (USUST).
The dissertation entitled “Time Series Forecasting Methods in Generative Modeling with Fuzzy Parameter Adaptation” was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 12 “Information Technologies,” specialty 122 Computer Science. The defense took place at a meeting of the one-time specialized academic council, the composition of which was approved at a meeting of the USUST Academic Council on May 27, 2026, Minutes No. 11.
The scientific supervisor of the research was Larysa Ivanivna Korotka, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems of the Educational and Research Institute “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology” of USUST.
The one-time specialized academic council consisted of:
- Head of the one-time council – HUDА Anton Ihorovych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Information Technologies and Systems of the Educational and Research Institute “Dnipro Metallurgical Institute” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies;
- Reviewer – SHYNKARENKO Viktor Ivanovych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Computer Information Technologies of the Educational and Research Institute “Dnipro Institute of Infrastructure and Transport” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies;
- Reviewer – OSTROVSKA Kateryna Yuriivna, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies and Systems of the Educational and Research Institute “Dnipro Metallurgical Institute” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies;
- Official opponent – FEDOROV Yevhen Yevhenovych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Statistics and Applied Mathematics of Cherkasy State Technological University, Cherkasy;
- Official opponent – SHAPOVALOVA Svitlana Ihorivna, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Technologies in Energy of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” Kyiv.
In the dissertation, the author solved a relevant scientific and applied problem aimed at improving the accuracy of time series forecasting by creating a hybrid generative architecture with mechanisms for fuzzy parameter adaptation and the integration of sentiment analysis.
The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the development of a new approach to time series forecasting based on a hybrid generative-adversarial architecture that combines the capabilities of generative modeling, fuzzy logic, and sentiment analysis to improve the accuracy of forecasting results.
The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the creation of the TimeGAN-FL hybrid time series forecasting model and its software implementation in the form of the timegan_fl Python package. The developed solutions have found practical application in the educational process in teaching courses related to artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as at enterprises in the metallurgical industry for forecasting financial indicators and supporting risk management based on the proposed hybrid architecture.
Following the open vote, all five members of the one-time specialized academic council unanimously supported the awarding of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy to Yurii Oleksiiovych Pertsev.
We sincerely congratulate the degree candidate and his scientific supervisor, Larysa Ivanivna Korotka, on the successful defense of the dissertation! We wish them further significant scientific results, successful implementation of new research projects, professional development, and new scientific achievements!
