The Department prepares specialists for the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the following fields of knowledge:

Branch of knowledge: 16 Chemical and bioengineering

Specialty: 161 Chemical Technology and Engineering

Educational programs:

The Department was founded in 1953 by a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh Republic, Professor Volodymyr W. Stender (1897-1969 biennium). Presently the department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. Vladimir H. Nefedov.

Over the period of the existence of the Department more than 3000 specialists who work in chemical, machine-building and metallurgical enterprises have been trained. About 50 graduates became directors or key specialists of enterprises, 38 defended candidate and 19 doctoral dissertations.

The Department developed electrochemical technologies for refining alloys, continuous obtaining zinc and copper foil, manganese, pure aluminum powder, offered insoluble metal-oxide anodes, new technologies of synthesis for chemical current sources. In 1973, a research laboratory for chemical current sources was created for the development of new energy-intensive lithium current sources. Powerful fuel cells and water-lithium current sources for marine use were developed, and plants that accumulate solar and wind power plants were designed.

In the direction of environmental technologies, a fundamentally new equipment for filtration and gas purification of water from organic impurities and heavy metal ions, a technology for purification of liquid industrial wastewater and extraction of non-ferrous metals from them was created. An accurate and effective method of computer diagnostics of solvent removal from galvanic baths is developed. A compact and economical flow diaphragm electrocoagulator of a fundamentally new design for the local extraction of heavy metals from washing water-containing impurities of small concentrations of ions is proposed. A method of electrochemical synthesis of nickel hydroxide for use in the battery industry was developed on the basis of this technology.

At present, there are 6 lecturers at the Department, including 2 doctors of sciences, professors, 4 candidates of sciences, associate professors, as well as experienced staff assistants. The staff of the Department constantly undergo advanced training in specialized organizations and in enterprises.

Since 1996, the Department of Electrical Engineering is headed by a candidate of technical sciences, associate professor S.G. Pavlius.

The department has experienced teachers: candidates of technical and chemical sciences, associate professors V.I. Sobornitsky, І.І. Papanova, V.M. Zamurnikov, assistant O.F. Shut’, teacher O.V. Chorna,  educational master V.P. Krokva.

The Department improves the technologies of coating the coatings by developing the “Power Supply – Electrolyzer” electrotechnological complexes, developing energy saving complexes in the power supply system of enterprises. The systems of automatic switching of the AVR reserve and the distribution cabinets of the wide assortment with the advanced stages of protection have been developed and implemented at the enterprises of small business, work is underway to implement differential protection systems. Particular attention is paid to the development and implementation of systems for compensation of reactive energy and improvement of the quality of electric energy in SHEI USUCT. The Department teaches eight electrical engineering disciplines. Basic education of teachers corresponds to the profile of training specialists.

The teaching and methodological work of the department is aimed at improving the quality of training of specialists with skills of independent work and is the most important task of the higher school.

Specialists of the Department of Electrical Engineering are constantly working on the improvement of the University’s electrical engineering. The system of automatic protection of boiler-houses that are heated by student dormitories, the system of compensation of reactive energy is developed; the modern system of staging illumination of the assembly hall of the university was introduced, blocks of protection of unique electronic equipment. The head of the Department is the chairman of the commission of the university for power engineering supervision.

Perspective directions of scientific activity of the department are research and introduction of alternative power sources (solar, wind energy, etc.); development of systems of non-fuel energy; increase of efficiency of power plants. These problems are very relevant today due to the relative reduction of Ukraine’s fuel resources.
