The research laboratory of synthetic fuels and fuel and lubricants has been operating at the Department for many years. It is accredited in the system of UkrSEPRO as Testing Laboratory of Petroleum Products.

The Department constantly improves the educational process: students are involved in research work, regularly conducting business games, competitions, competitions. Masters of the Department constantly participate in the work of scientific conferences.

The main scientific direction of the Department is “Alternative fuels, their properties and influence on structural materials”. The staff of the Department carry out comprehensive research on the development of the composition of synthetic automobile fuel, the development of packages of additives for blended fuels and fuel and lubricants on the basis of biological raw materials, studying the mechanism of formation of asphalt-resinous-paraffin deposits, studying the corrosion properties of new substances for pre-treatment of oil. 

The teachers of the Department have been cooperating with leading enterprises of the energy complex of Ukraine for many years, which are also the bases of student practice: PJSC “Ukrtatnafta” (Kremenchuk), the regional state enterprise “Agrinol” (Berdyansk), PJSC “Naftohimik Prykarpattya” (Nadvirna), NPC “Galichina” Drohobych), Odessa Odesa Oil Refinery (Odessa), KvS Evraz Dniprovsky Metallurgical Plant (Dnipro), ZaporozhCox (Zaporizhzhya), PJSC Linik (Lisichansk).
